The Jackpot Justice Court is located by the northern border of Elko County on the Idaho state line.  The court is presided over by Justice of the Peace J. Brad Hester.

Judge does not read letters from defendant nor talk to them unless in court, nor, does he listen to what an officer has to say about a citation. It is his job to hear the case in court and decide at that point if the state has proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt. If he listens to what you have to say then it’s unfair to the State and if he listens to the State, it is unfair to you. If he listens to either of you, then he has to disqualify himself and another judge has to hear the case. Therefore, he is only involved if the case comes to court and at that time he will listen to both sides. You will have a chance to question the Officer and the State will have a chance to question you (in person).

It is Judge’s policy that he does not dismiss or reduce fines.

If you want to go to trial, you must appear in court and you must post the amount of the bail as a Cashier’s check or money order. The bail is to ensure that you appear at Trial. If you are found Not Guilty, then the Full amount of the Bail is returned to you. If you are found Guilty, then the Bail is applied to the fines. You may either pay the fine or appear in court on the date assigned on the Citation at 1:30 p.m. (MT). Failure to comply will result in additional fees, Bench Warrant, and your Driver’s License will be suspended by your state, until citation/Complaint has been adjudicated.
